On Saturday, March 16th our team will be joining Canada’s top talent across cinema, television, and radio artists for ACTRA Day in LA, the preeminent LA industry and networking event helmed by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television, and Radio Artists labor union! From 9am to 7pm the Beverly Hilton will host a number of roundtable discussions, industry panels, and Q&A sessions with artists, agents, and experts eager to discuss common trends that Canadian artists and professionals face in 2019 and beyond.
Our own Lorraine D’Alessio will join tax specialist Mo Ahmad, and ACTRA member and actress Elysia Rotaru (Dead Again in Tombstone, Arrow) for Actors Without Borders, an in-depth analysis of U.S. immigration trends and tax do’s and don’ts for Canadian entertainers and industry pros. As proud sponsors of the event, we’re excited to continue our support for ACTRA and the ACTRA community, and to have the opportunity to support Canadian artists in finding success on both sides of the border.
After our session ACTRA National Vice President Keith martin Gordey will welcome attendees with the official ACTRA Welcome to ADLA ’19 speech, followed by ACTRA and AFBS Reports from Fraternal Benefit Society President/CEO Bob Underwood, AFBS CFO Ron Zammit, ACTRA National Treasurer Theresa Tova, Director of ACTRA Performers’ Rights Society and ACTRA Recording Artists’ Collecting Society Laurie McAllister. These panels will give LA based members the chance to catch up with the union and benefits providers in one location for convenience.
The afternoon will feature the Casting Your Career roundtable with renowned casting directors Deborah Aquila (La La Land, Shawshank Redemption), Jason Kennedy (NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles), international talent manager Marc Hamou, and audition coach Ayumi Iizuka. Panelists will share valuable tips and advice for the audition and callbacks process.
After that Canadian film and television stars Elisha Cuthbert (The Ranch, Goon), Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley, Charlie St. Cloud), Roger Cross (Coroner, 24) and National Award of Excellence recipient Jay Baruchel (How To Tran Your Dragon, Knocked Up, Tropic Thunder) will share their unique experiences as Canadian actors balancing their careers on both sides of the border.
From 5-7pm the Stardust Social will allow for ACTRA members and industry guests to mingle and discuss the festivities from the day while enjoying the subset over the LA Skyline. The social will present the ACTRA National Award of Excellence to Mr. Baruchel for his many years of service to the Canadian and larger entertainment industry.
